NEW COURSE
“Reading Rock Stars: Examining Best Practices for All Students” offered during the 2018-2019 school year focuses on helping teachers incorporate literacy and writing implementing the common core expectations. Often in today’s classrooms, instruction is interrupted due to a student’s lack of self-regulation skills or inability to work independently. In this course, participants will increase the achievement of their students in academic areas by reflection on their personal beliefs and biases that affect the culture of the classroom. Participants will research and investigate classroom practices that exemplify the collaboration, flexibility, agency, and problem-solving that people need to be successful in the coming decades. Participants will evaluate their own teaching practices and incorporate new ideas through evaluation of students’ reading and writing, while applying the new professional knowledge from this course.
